This year, The Patterson Foundation is incentivizing donations from both new donors –individuals who did not donate to a particular organization during the 2015 Giving Challenge – and returning donors – individuals who did support a particular organization during the 2015 Giving Challenge. This opportunity encourages organizations to engage new online donors as well as loyal returning supporters during this year’s event. The Patterson Foundation will provide support in two ways:

- A 2:1 match for each new online donor’s contributions – up to $100 per donor, per organization

- A 1:1 match for returning donor’s contributions – up to $100 per donor, per organization


The Patterson Foundation will also award $51,000 in prizes to the nonprofits that cultivate the highest total dollars of new and returning donations during the 2016 Giving Challenge. Prizes will be awarded to organizations across three categories based on size:

Small: Organizations with budgets less than $100,000

Medium: Organizations with budgets between $100,000 and $750,000

Large: Organizations with budgets greater than $750,000

OPPORTUNITY 1: THE MOST UNIQUE DONORS

Winners for this category will be announced on September 28, 2016 to allow time for all gifts to finalize and catch any errors. Standings on the live Leaderboard during the Giving Challenge may be subject to change after the Challenge.


OPPORTUNITY 2: BEST GIVING CHALLENGE 2015 STORY

20 Grant Awards: $200

$200 grant each to the 20 nonprofits with the top blog post, newsletter block, or email campaign published between now and August 31 that tells your 2015 Giving Challenge story. How did your donors make a difference last year? Why is it important for donors to support your organization again this year during the Giving Challenge? Must submit by 8/31/16, will be judged by 9/20/16. 


OPPORTUNITY 3: THE FAST 50

50 Grant Awards: $500

$500 grant each to the 50 nonprofits that are the first to get 50 donors to give online at www.givingpartnerchallenge.org. Automatically awarded during challenge.


OPPORTUNITY 4: GOLDEN TICKETS

24 Grant Awards: $100

$100 hourly prize added to one random donor’s gift EVERY HOUR. Automatically awarded during challenge.

$100 hourly prize made to an organization that tweets using #GivingChallenge16. Awarded during challenge.


OPPORTUNITY 5: BEST GIVING CHALLENGE COMMUNITY EVENT

2 Grant Awards: $2,000 each

$2,000 grant awarded to two nonprofits who host the best Giving Challenge community event. Judges are looking for how well your event engages the community in your mission and the challenge; how unique your event is; how did it inspire giving to your organization; and how your event incorporated the “Be The One” concept. Must register intent to participate by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge. 


OPPORTUNITY 6: BEST USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA

3 Grant Awards: $1,500 to the winners of each category (Small, Medium, Large Organizations)

$1,500 to the winners of each category who utilize social media the best during their Giving Challenge campaign. Judges are looking for how clear, intentional, and unique your campaign is, and how well did it incorporate the “Be The One” concept. Judges will also consider how much reach, interaction, and engagement your campaign generates. Must register intent to participate by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge. 


OPPORTUNITY 7: BEST NONPROFIT PARTNERSHIP

$4,000 to two winning partnerships. $4,000 is split between partners

$4,000 grant split between nonprofit partners in a collaboration. Judges are looking for each partner to bring something unique or creative to the table; each partner achieves more than it would achieve alone; partnership incorporates the concept of “Be The One;” and the partnership has the potential to extend beyond the Giving Challenge. Must register intent to participate by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge. 


OPPORTUNITY 8: BEST BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

3 Grant Awards: $1,000 to the winners of each category (Small, Medium, Large Organizations)

$1,000 to the winners of each category with the best business partnership. Judges are looking for the nonprofit/ business relationship to be something creative or unique; by working with the business, the nonprofit achieves more than it would achieve alone; the partnership incorporates the concept of “Be The One;” and the partnership has the potential to extend beyond the Giving Challenge. Must register intent to participate by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge. 


OPPORTUNITY 9: BEST BOARD MEMBER ENGAGEMENT

3 Grant Awards: $1,000 to the winners of each category (Small, Medium, Large Organizations)

$1,000 grant will be awarded to the winners of each category. Judges will be looking for 100% giving by board members during the Giving Challenge and for creative ways the board and individual board members contribute to the success of your campaign. Must register intent to participate by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge.


OPPORTUNITY 10: BEST GIVING CHALLENGE VIDEO

3 Grant Awards: $2,000 to the winners of each category (Small, Medium, Large Organizations)

$2,000 grant to the winners of each category with the best video. Judges are looking for videos either produced in- house or produce professionally; videos telling compelling stories about what organizations achieve for their clients or for the community; using data and stories from The Giving Partner profiles; does the video incorporate the “Be The One” concept; and ways the video was shared to achieve Giving Challenge goals. Must register intent to participate by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge. 


OPPORTUNITY 11: BEST OVERALL CAMPAIGN

3 Grant Awards: $5,000 each to the winners of each category (Small, Medium, Large Organizations)

$5,000 grant to each of the winners of each category with the best overall campaigns. Judges will be looking for pre- determined goals and strategies before the Challenge; a variety of communication tools are used in a campaign with integrated messaging; how well your campaign incorporated the “Be The One” concept; and inclusion of references to your Giving Partner profile. Remember, this isn’t about spending money! Must register intent to participate before by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge. 


OPPORTUNITY 12: MANATEE MILLENNIAL CHALLENGE

9 grants totaling $20,000 will be awarded: $5,000 grants (2), $2,500 grants (2), $1,000 grants (5)

Through a partnership between Manatee Community Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, we are encouraging nonprofits to build philanthropic leadership among their Millennial staff, volunteers and donors through their engagement in the Giving Challenge. Nonprofit must either be located in Manatee County or focus its programs/services in Manatee County; Applications must be completed by a Millennial staff member, volunteer, donor, or board member (18 – 34 year old age range); Millennial engagement must impact the nonprofit’s success during its Giving Challenge campaign. Must register intent to participate before by 8/19/16. Judged after challenge.
