1. Which organizations are eligible to participate in the 2016 Giving Challenge?
501(c)(3) public charities that have demonstrated transparency with a published and current profile in The Giving Partner, www.thegivingpartner.org, are eligible to participate in the 2016 Giving Challenge.


2. Is there a minimum donation?
Donations of $25 or more are accepted on www.givingpartnerchallenge.org and are 100% tax-deductible.


3. Are there fees involved?
The online gift processing fee for donations made on www.givingpartnerchallenge.org is 6%, standard for Give Day events across the country. This fee, which is charged by the online payment vendor KIMBIA and credit card processing company, will be deducted from each contribution.

There is no fee for charities to participate. The Community Foundation of Sarasota County takes no fees, has granted $100,000 to incentivize giving, and donates hundreds of hours of administrative support to make the event possible.

4. As a donor, can I receive a benefit for giving?
Donations in the 2016 Giving Challenge may not be made in exchange for goods, services, memberships, dues, tickets or other services or benefits.


5. Will my donation be matched?
This year, The Patterson Foundation is incentivizing donations from both new donors –individuals who did not donate to a particular organization during the 2015 Giving Challenge – and returning donors – individuals who did support a particular organization during the 2015 Giving Challenge. This opportunity encourages organizations to engage new online donors as well as loyal returning supporters during this year’s event. The Patterson Foundation will provide support in two ways:

- A 2:1 match for each new online donor’s contributions – up to $100 per donor, per organization
- A 1:1 match for returning donor’s contributions – up to $100 per donor, per organization
- $51,000 in prizes for nonprofits that cultivate the highest totals of all dollars


6. Can a donor give multiple times and qualify for the match or to help nonprofits qualify for the grants for “the most donors?
A donor is defined as one individual or corporation/business, using a distinct credit card. Individuals who are reimbursed by any funding source for making a donation are ineligible for matching. Organizations are prohibited from donating to themselves.


7. What forms of payment are accepted?
Credit or debit card donations received during the 24-hour period (Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. through Wednesday, September 21 at 11:59:59 a.m.) online at www.givingpartnerchallenge.org will apply to the rules of this online event. All donations are irrevocable (donations will not be refunded) and will be for the unrestricted use of your chosen charity. 


8. Is the site secure?
Secure donations for the Giving Challenge are provided through KIMBIA to each donor entering their own credit card information directly on the giving site. Any third party who enters credit card information on behalf of a donor, by their actions of entering any such credit card information on behalf of a donor has signified their agreement with the sponsoring foundations and organizations of the Giving Challenge 1.) to assume all risk of loss and any liability associated with such transaction and 2.) to indemnify each of the sponsoring foundations and organizations of the Giving Challenge against any and all risk of loss and any liability associated with such transaction.



The 2016 Giving Challenge is presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County with giving strengthened by The Patterson Foundation, as well as support from Manatee Community Foundation, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, William G. and Marie Selby Foundation, and the Herald-Tribune Media Group. Partner funders do not receive fees of any kind from donations made during the Giving Challenge.
